We are to find examples of web pages that are mostly images, data,
and attitude or opinion. then put them in a list or on a page. These
pages are to communicate well. Here is my stab at the assignment.
- The Astronomy Picture of the Day
- Image = http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html
- This has got to be one of my favorite sites. It is educational in that every
image displayed is explained. This is NASA's astronomy picture of the day site.
My little boy and I visit this site almost daily to see the pictures. The
images do change daily, and there is an archive so you don't have to miss thing.
Should you decided that you like a certain image you can click on the image and it will
take you to a bigger version of it. We save our favorites to a special directory and
use them as wallpaper for our computers here at home. Looking out into the sky with
these images has never tired our family yet.

- The Baby Center
- Data = http://www.babycenter.com/
- Here is parenting help galore. Even the heavy hitters are here to give advice.
It's pretty busy, and yet pretty cool! This opening page to the site does
have a few images. But, mostly there are tons of links to other pages. I like the
way it is laid out. The eye naturally follows a certain direction. When
considering how much is there, the page is very well done. Or at least that's my
opinion.
-
- The Founding Fathers
- Attitude =http://www.FoundingFathers.ORG/
- I guess these people consider themselves to be conservative. I shudder at the
thought that they could ever be leaders in our country. I shudder even more at the
thought that they are using Thomas Jefferson's name in this site. All in all what I
did read from a wide variety of articles here, is that basically these people are closed
minded people using opinions that are 200 years old to justify today's opinions.
-
- Here's one I do agree with:
- The Welfare Mom's Homepage
- http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1064/
-
It was while working on looking for something with attitude (or opinion) that I came to
realize just how this one limited medium can say so much for so many different people.
The web is not as limited as it used to be. There is JAVA, CGI, PEARL,
Dynamic HTML, and all the scripts. A page can really come alive now when you
consider that all this stuff has to fit within the restraints of a basic HTML document.
So, no matter what you want to say whether it be with words or images there is a
way to do it on the web. I think that was the big lesson for me here. And this
reinforces my favorite quote: "If you can dream it, you can do it."
